About the challenge
In this role you will be working with both internal and external stakeholders to create effective, impactful, high quality learning solutions. From conducting needs analysis and developing course curricula, through to the implementation of appropriate learning tools, methods and technologies, you will take ownership of the development of a variety of learning content and work both collaboratively and independently to create new material and keep that material up to date.
This role is critical in ensuring the delivery of high-quality learning materials, aligning closely with client expectations and educational standards.
The Learning Designer will report directly to the Head of Learning, ensuring alignment with Upskill’s overall strategic priorities. On a day-to-day basis, the Learning Designer will receive mentorship and coaching from the Learning Design Lead. This structure is designed to provide both oversight and support
What are some of the things I will be doing?
Content design and development:
- Create synchronous and asynchronous course curricula, content; including Agendas, Lesson Plans, Scripts and Storyboards, Decks and Toolkits and assets for a range of learning products according to client and learner requirements, aligning with UU’s best practice and brand guidelines within the set timelines.
- Create engaging content using authoring tools such as Articulate Rise
- Manage the visual aesthetics of learning programmes, course packages, decks and other learning materials to ensure consistency with brand guidelines.
- Ensure all learning content and materials are systematically stored and filed according to UpSkill’s Google Drive filing system.
- Ensuring all learning assets are of the highest quality and adhere to our Quality Assurance process as well as aligning with UU’s pedagogy
Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders:
- Collaborate with SME’s, copywriters, graphic designers, videographers and freelance learning designers from the UpSkill Talent pool to ensure the delivery of quality content.
- Collaborate with programme managers to ensure timely development of lesson plans, decks, toolkits, surveys, trainer guides, scripts, and handouts based on client needs.
- TTT trainers and ensure assimilation of learning to support delivery of content
Reporting & impact measurement
- Conduct thorough quality checks on own learning materials to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and alignment with UpSkill's standards and client requirements.
- Ensure you create assets that are aligned with the quality assurance processes, ensuring consistency and quality across all learning products.
- Maintain awareness of key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to the learning design projects.
- Actively ensure that your own work meets KPIs, contributing to the team’s overall performance and objectives.
Essential skills
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 3+ years experience as a learning designer or instructional designer within a corporate or agency environment
- You have experience in developing elements of full-stack learning content from concept to needs analysis, lesson plans, course curriculums to decks to running TTTs
- You have 3+ years of experience designing a range of learning experiences, for a variety of audiences for small-medium sized organisations
- Subject matter expertise in either diversity and inclusion, soft skill development and / or digital skills
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in leading learning-related projects from inception to completion, ideally supported by knowledge of project management methodologies like Six Sigma or Prince2.
- Proficiency in advanced tools and software for e-learning development such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or similar authoring tools.
- Additional certifications from recognized bodies in the field of instructional design and educational technology
- Coaching and / or mentoring qualification (accredited)
- Subject matter expertise in all our Upskill areas of expertise (Upskill Inclusion, Upskill Workforce and Upskill Impact)
